Describing a Hindu as someone who seeks unity in diversity, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday urged the Hindu community to get rid of its shortcomings, work for “sameness of humanity” and be “a world leader”.

Addressing the inaugural session of the World Hindu Congress (WHC), Bhagwat said there would always be a need to realise “sameness of humanity” in the world and the Hindu society can deliver the message.

Bhagwat called for ridding Hindu society of its shortcomings and make India a world leader.

Referring to Swami Vivekananda’s words “Arise, awake and not stop till the goal is reached,” Bhagwat said, “Let us start our work in all walks of life — media, academia… leadership based on our values is required. Let us demonstrate that capability. We have to work on values of sameness of humanity.”

The theme of the WHC is visioned on the Hindu principle of Sangachchhadhwam Samvadadhwam (Step Together, Express Together).

The Dalai Lama said there was a need to develop “knowledge of mind” and to remember “sameness of humanity”.

VHP leader Ashok Singhal referred to Narendra Modi leading the BJP to victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and said power had returned to a Hindu swabhimani (proud Hindu) in Delhi after eight centuries.

“Eight hundred years after it (the power at Delhi) went away form Prithviraj Chauhan, it did not come into the hands of a proud Hindu. It has happened after 800 years,” Singhal said.

Addressing the gathering, CV Wigneswaran, Chief Minister of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, said difficulties faced by the Hindu community in the island nation did not come to an end with the Sri Lankan Government’s war with the LTTE coming to an end in 2009. BJP president Amit Shah, Union Ministers Smriti Irani, Nitin Gadkari and Nirmala Sitharaman are also scheduled to address the gathering in different sessions.

The conference, which has attracted educationists and scientists, will have 45 sessions.

The organisers said the WHC intends to serve as a channel for Hindus across the globe to congregate on a common platform and deliberate ways to strengthen the community. The Congress will also help organise the talent of Hindus that remains scattered and help people network with one another.

Economist Dr Bibek Debroy, former ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair and CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi will also attend and addresses the gathering.

The World Hindu Congress will have seven conferences, 45 sessions to be addressed by 200 prominent International and national speakers and experts.

The speakers include besides RSS chief and Dalai Lama, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, RSS Sarkaryawah Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi, RSS Sah Sarkaryawah Dattatreya Hosabale and RSS Sah Sarkaryawah Dr Krishna Gopal, Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, HRD Minister Smriti Irani, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Guyanese Finaice Ministrer Dr Ashni Singh, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, educationist Prof SB Majumdar, Dr G Vishwanath, Prof Kapil Kapur, Film Producers Priyadarshan and Major Ravi and Southern film actress Sukanya Ramesh.
